At this moment today, April 5th 2020, there are 1,269,240confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide and 69,346 deaths. In about 5 months a virus has sprung from a wet market in Wuhan, China to infect so many people and affect so many lives. Cities are in complete lock-downs, unemployment is high, investments are losing money, and fear is rampant. Our world has never seen anything quite like this.

 

I do not wish to make coronavirus seem any less worse than it actually is and I certainly do not want to make light of the thousands of deaths from this virus, since I believe all life is sacred. But I would like to make a simple comparison to illuminate a much larger problem in our world that has been around since the very beginning, but has been far more prominent over the last 50 years.
