Abortion and Covid-19
By Reagan Parker

At this moment today, April 5th, 2020, there are 1,269,240 confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide and 69,346 deaths. In about 5 months a virus has sprung from a wet market in Wuhan, China to infect so many people and affect so many lives. Cities are in complete lockdowns, unemployment is high, investments are losing money, and fear is rampant. Our world has never seen anything quite like this.

I do not wish to make coronavirus seem any less worse than it actually is and I certainly do not want to make light of the thousands of deaths from this virus, since I believe all life is sacred. But I would like to make a simple comparison to illuminate a much larger problem in our world that has been around since the very beginning, but has been far more prominent over the last 50 years.

Again, at this point there have been 69,346 confirmed deaths worldwide from COVID-19, a cumulative count from the start of the virus, about 5 moths ago. Since January 1st there have been over 11,139,000 abortions worldwide, and the number is rapidly increasing. People are rightfully fearful of the destruction this virus can bring, but the death count will never compare to the countless deaths from abortion, which we commit and allow. COVID-19 has been around

for 5 months. Abortion has been legal throughout the entirety of the United States for 47 years, starting with the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. Since 1980 there have been far over 1,500,000,000 deaths worldwide. These are numbers, and even if they are slightly off, the point remains the same and the proof is there.

There must be measures taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus; there have been far too many deaths already, and every loss of life is a tragedy. But for so long our priorities have been off. There is an average of 125,000 abortions a day, meaning in one single day, more lives are taken than in five months of the coronavirus. We have waited so long to act and we have become tolerant of abortion in our society. So many don’t like it, but they wish to keep planted in the middle ground, admiring the right to “choice” over the right to life. All human life is a gift, no matter how they came into the world, or their deformities, or their location, or ethnicity. The value of human life has never been based on IQ, location, ethnicity, etc. Human life is valuable because humans are created in the image of God and he actively forms each baby in His own likeness inside of the womb.

Now is the time for action. I hope coronavirus and the universally recognized tragedy of its destruction, will be eye-opening to the disaster we have allowed for half a century, claiming millions of lives in the US and over a billion worldwide. I pray the world will recognize the evil of abortion and that maybe even some of the unborn can be saved in this time, as coronavirus restrictions close abortion clinics. Be active in any way you can. Chances are you are active in some way to stop the spread of COVID-19 in order to save lives; why would you not be active in a much greater extent to prevent human beings from destroying far more of their own kind, who are all made in God’s image for His glory?
